Ingredients

  • 4-5 large, ripe oranges (preferably navel or Valencia)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange blossom water or vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest

Method

  1. Gently wash the oranges, zest them, and extract 2 cups of fresh juice.
  2. Bloom the gelatin by sprinkling it over cold water and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, boiling water, sugar, and lemon juice. Heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Remove from heat and whisk in the bloomed gelatin until dissolved. Add optional flavoring.
  5. Stir in the orange zest and pour the mixture into a pan or molds.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4-6 hours until set.

Notes

Ensure your gelatin is bloomed properly to avoid lumps. Store the jelly in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
