Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the glaze (optional):
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the donut pan(s).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and fill each donut cavity two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze: whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Dip cooled donuts in the glaze and place back on the wire rack to set.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Freeze unglazed donuts for longer storage.
