Ingredients

Apple Filling
  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples peeled and cubed
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar loosely packed
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 pinch salt
To Serve
  • vanilla ice cream optional

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Peel and dice the apples into 1/2-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss apples with flour, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon until evenly coated. Spread into a 1.5-quart baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture. Do not press down.
  6. Place the baking dish on a sheet tray and bake for 30–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
  7. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Use a mix of apples for deeper flavor. Letting it cool before serving helps the filling thicken. Bake on a tray to catch overflow. To reheat, use the oven for best texture.
